Our Charity Work

Since 2007, to mark the 10th anniversary of the founding of LON, we have held an annual fundraiser to give back to our community. Members are asked to submit their suggestions and then vote on the charity recipient each year. We have raised tens of thousands of dollars in support of charities such as The Alzheimer's Society, Seasons Centre for Grieving Children, the 4th Line Park, Hospice Simcoe, Gilda's Club Simcoe Muskoka, the local Firefighters, the Women and Children's Shelter of Barrie, Anne Doucette, Youth Haven, Habitat for Humanity and Seasons Centre for Grieving Children. Many local businesses are perennial  supporters of the event, either through donations to our silent auction or sponsoring a hole during the event. The 2026 Recipient is Cope Service Dogs. You can learn more about them at https://www.copedogs.org/

PAST CHARITIES THE LON HAS SUPPORTED

Our 2024 event supported The Sharing Place Food Centre in Orillia. The event was held at Horseshoe Resort Valley Club Course on Wednesday, September 11, and the weather was perfect.

Through online and event-day fundraising activities, we raised an incredible $37,885.09. Thank you to all our volunteers, sponsors, donors, and our steadfast supporters, The Backporch Boys. We also greatly appreciate Horseshoe Resort for its continued support.

Below is a little video of the day showing how much fun we had raising funds for our charity partner.

Lisa, Barb, Sher (Green Haven Outreach Support) & Donna.

Green Haven Shelter for Women was the recipient for the 17th LON Charity Event, held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. It was a memorable day for many, especially for our recipients og this fantastic charity located in Orillia.

A special fundraising event was hosted over the Labour Day weekend by three LON ladies notablely Barb & Lisa in support of the charity campaign. The final total raised for Green Haven was $30,909.90.

In 2022, we worked to raise funds for Mariposa House Hospice and the final tally  was a grand total of $19,899.58!

Bob and his team from the Backporch Boys - who support us each and every year - ran a Drive4Dough and made $900 for Mariposa House Hospice!! This is the cheque presentation. Thanks so much BPB's!!

Seasons Centre for Grieving Children was our 2021, and in spite of the pandemic, we still raised over $16,000!  On November 18th, Kim Sanderson, Bev Jackson and Jane Shiells represented the LON Horseshoe at their "Celebration of Support Feature Wall" unveiling at the Season's Centre for Grieving Children.  With our 2021 Charity Event and also proceeds from the event in 2009 we raised in total just under $25k and are recognized for our contributions on the wall.  It was a wonderful, heart warming event with two young ladies speaking to their experiences at the centre.
